MEET YOUR SPECIALISTS
Your lead guide for this trip is Zeki Basan. His deep connection to this wild landscape is what sparked the journey that brings you here - into a place that has become a true home away from home.
Zeki is from the Highlands of Scotland where he has spent his life practicing, learning and teaching, old traditional survival skills. He has also spent time with First Nation and tribal communities in different parts of the world to increase his own knowledge and understanding of traditional survival.
In addition to his passion for traditional skills, he is an outdoor guide, leading groups in remote environments. And he has trained as a Glacier Guide in Iceland where he worked for several years leading groups on Europe's largest ice caps.
Zeki's passion for exploring wild places and utilising what nature provides is at the root of this journey. To give you a deeper understanding and connection with nature, you will have the opportunity to learn and practice traditional Greenlandic and Celtic skills.
Eliza brings a wealth of experience working alongside world-class survival specialists and local communities. Her speciality is seamlessly blending logistical expertise with a passion for helping people reconnect to nature. Her approach focuses on guiding individuals to rediscover their innate connection to the wild, embracing a more primitive and instinctual state of being.
Raised on a traditional working farm in Shropshire, with her heart now firmly rooted in the Scottish Highlands, Eliza's connection to nature is both deeply personal and profoundly diverse.
Her journey has taken her across oceans aboard racing and expedition yachts and on immersive journeys into the wilderness. These experiences have profoundly shaped her belief in the transformative power of reconnecting with the natural world
By crafting experiences that strip away the distractions of modern life, she invites guests to tap into their primal instincts and reignite the bond we all share with the wild.
For over 30 years, Stefán has called South Greenland home, stewarding 93,000 acres of wild land as a reindeer herder. For Stefán, his son, Manichuk, and his daughter Freya, home sits just five kilometres from the Greenland Icecap and offers breathtaking views of untouched wilderness, the Northern Lights, and abundant wildlife.
Stefán’s life is rich with stories of adventure, resilience, and the challenges of living sustainably in one of the planet’s most remote corners. His tales invite you to experience his world, where ancient traditions and a deep respect for nature thrive against the backdrop of a changing environment.
ITINERARY
From the skills that sustain life in the tundra to the stories of survival passed through generations, you’ll experience Greenland from Stefan and his families perspective, as custodians of this wild landscape.
The traditions, the land, and the quiet resilience of those who live here are what you will see, feel, and carry with you long after the journey ends.
Upon enquiry, we will work closely with you to design the ideal travel plan from your home destination to this remarkable corner of the world. Our team offers personalised support in selecting from a handpicked collection of hotels in Reykjavik or Copenhagen.
We’ll also assist in arranging your flights, whether you prefer the comfort and convenience of private travel or the simplicity of commercial routes.
Due to the region’s remote and weather-dependent nature, we recommend allowing for a minimum of 10 days away. This provides flexibility for potential weather-related adjustments, as well as time to explore and unwind in Copenhagen or Reykjavik before and after your Greenlandic escape.
Please note that travel, accommodation, and insurance outside of Greenland are not included in the core experience cost. This allows us to tailor every element to your individual preferences and create a journey that’s entirely bespoke to you.
Your escape to the wilderness begins the moment you touch down in Narsarsuaq.
For those seeking a fully seamless experience, our optional concierge enhancement ensures every detail of your journey is handled on your behalf, from flight arrangements to a bespoke pre-Greenland itinerary in Reykjavik, Iceland’s vibrant capital, or Copenhagen, both essential gateways to the Arctic.
With our team managing every element of your journey, all that’s left for you to do is arrive, and let your Greenlandic wilderness escape unfold.
Fly from Reykjavik to Narsarsuaq, peering down at the expanse of the ice cap covering the continent below, the remote nature of Greenland will begin to unfold. From here, a private three-hour boat ride through glaciated waters will take you deep into the heart of the wilderness. Your home for the next week, sits at the edge of the Greenlandic Icecap. Settle into your cabins and surroundings, where the essential skills and deep knowledge of the land are the foundation of life for the few who call this wild place home. Spend your first evening meeting the family and your guide, Zeki, listening to their stories over a hearty home cooked meal.
Experience the Inuit way of sourcing food from the land during the seasonal run of Arctic char. This time of year brings an abundance of fish, a vital food source for the community. Learn traditional fishing techniques passed down through generations, as well as sustainable methods of cooking and smoking char.
Discover how every part of the fish is utilised, including crafting durable leather from fish skins - a testament to the Inuit philosophy of living in balance with nature's cycles and wasting nothing.
Venture onto the world’s second-largest glacier, where Inuit hunters once tracked Arctic wildlife and relied on the icecap as vital travel routes during frozen winters. Traverse this breathtaking landscape, learning essential glacier navigation skills while uncovering the profound effects of climate change on the ecosystem. Guided by Zeki, gain a deeper understanding of the challenges and resilience required to live in harmony with this ever-changing environment.
Learn essential survival skills that have allowed the communities here to thrive for centuries - the self-sufficiency that comes with living in such an isolated location, the art of knife-making and crafting tools that are crucial for hunting, fishing, building and fixing in this isolated destination. Explore further into the art of leather-making, transforming animal hides into durable materials for clothing, tools, and shelter. Through hands-on experience, you’ll gain a deep understanding of how these disappearing ancient techniques are still fundamental to living in harmony with the land.
You can choose to relax at basecamp to soak in the peaceful surroundings, or join Freya, Manichuk, and Zeki on a wild mountain sheep hunt. If successful the sheep will be carried back to basecamp and Zeki will take you through how to skin and butcher an animal to utilise every part, including the organs which you will use to make a traditional Highland haggis.
Depart the wild by boat, followed by a flight from Narsarsuaq to either Reykjavik or Copenhagen, where you can catch your connecting flight home. The contrast between Greenland's vast, untouched landscapes and the busy pace of modern life may feel strange as the sights and sounds of the world you left behind slowly come back into focus.
